Care for All
Here at Bauer and Howard Dental Care, we know that a dental emergency can arise at any time. Whether it’s an injury to your teeth or gums, it shouldn’t be ignored and we can help restore your emergency back to good health.
We provide emergency dental care for all individuals during our regular business hours but we do advise that you call our office as soon as the dental trauma occurs so we can get you in right away. Our top priority is to relieve you of your dental pain as soon as it starts so we’ll offer a number of treatments depending on the result of your dental emergency.
What to do in case of an emergency
Dental accidents can happen when you least expect them, but knowing what to do can mean the difference between saving and losing a tooth. Below are some tips for you to go by in case of a common dental emergency:
When a tooth is completely knocked out from a playing a sport or hitting it on a hard surface, you’ll need to come into our office immediately to get a replacement tooth. If you know where your tooth is after it’s been taken out, be sure to keep it when you come in for your appointment.
Try to keep it moist in a cup of water until you bring it in because we may be able to restore it.
If you chip, crack or break a tooth, immediately rinse your mouth with warm water. Minor tooth fractures usually don’t hurt, but if you have broken more than half of your tooth off then it can damage the nerve inside the tooth and cause pain.
Contact our Hastings or Doniphan office right away if you’re experiencing pain with a fractured tooth. If you notice swelling, put cold compresses on the area to reduce inflammation.
If you see swelling inside your mouth or outside on your face you may be forming an abscess. A tooth abscess is a collection of pus caused by a bacterial infection in the center of a tooth. Abscesses can form very quickly and become serious because the infection may spread to other parts of the body.
Call our team immediately if you think you are experiencing a tooth abscess.
In the case of a dental emergency that occurs after we’ve closed our office for the night, we provide an emergency answering service on the weekends.
If you’re a current patient and you begin to experience pain from a dental trauma that needs immediate attention, you may call our Hastings or Doniphan offices during the weekend for help. However, if it’s a weekday, you’ll have to wait until the next day to come in and we advise you to call first thing in the morning so we can fix your problem right away.
Otherwise, we recommend going directly to the emergency room in case we’re not available to help after normal business hours.
