Dental Implants

Start Living Without Restrictions

Dental implants are a natural-looking, lasting solution to restore missing teeth due to dental trauma or tooth decay. An implant acts as a tooth’s root that’s secured to the jaw bone, making for a strong foundation and a durable new tooth.

Made of biocompatible titanium, implants help protect your jaw bone from further bone loss, deterioration, or face reshaping. They’re custom-made to match the look and feel of your natural teeth. Plus, dental implants are so comfortable that you can enjoy your favorite foods with ease.

Upsides of Dental Implants

Our doctors at Hastings Family Dental are able to restore smiles for patients missing one or more teeth, giving them a smile to feel confident about. Our dental implants provide the following benefits:

  • Replaces teeth without affecting neighboring teeth
  • Eliminates the need for a removable partial denture
  • Stimulates healthy jaw bone growth
  • Allows you to chew comfortably and speak clearly
  • Enhances the appearance of your smile

Overdentures

A denture option we offer that provides a more secure and stable solution is an overdenture. This tooth replacement alternative is a traditional denture that is placed over at least two roots or dental implants to hold the denture in place.

Attachments will be placed onto the roots or implant, which will help anchor the denture onto your jawbone. An overdenture offers a longer-lasting, more permanent solution for patients who aren’t satisfied with their complete denture.

Implant-retained Dentures

An implant-retained denture is similar to an overdenture, in that it is held in by attachments that are connected to multiple dental implants along your jawbone. An implant is the most secure and comfortable method of holding a denture in place and can enhance your ability to eat and speak with ease. We can also use dental implants to stabilize your partial denture in place.

It Begins With Your Free Consultation

The first step in the implant process is your no-obligation consultation with one of our exceptional dentists. We’ll examine your smile and discuss your treatment goals so we can determine the best course of action for you.

If you’re a candidate for dental implants, and choose to pursue this option, we can start the process right away. We’ll begin by securing a titanium implant fixture, which works like the root of your natural tooth.

Through a process called osseointegration, your jaw bone will form a durable bond with the fixture and create a strong foundation for your new tooth. After a few short months, you’ll return to one of our offices and we’ll attach a porcelain crown to complete your smile.

Are Dental Implants Right for You?

As a leading treatment for restorative dentistry, there’s a few key points to know before making this long-term investment.

  1. Not all patients immediately qualify for dental implants.
  2. Patients who have left their missing or damaged tooth untreated for too long won’t have substantial bone mass to support the implant.
  3. If you’ve lost most of your jawbone strength, unfortunately, the dental implants won’t be the first recommended restorative treatment for you.
  4. For those whose oral health isn’t at its best, our knowledgeable dental team may recommend a preliminary procedure for you, like a bone graft or sinus augmentation.

FAQs

How long do dental implants last?

Dental implants are designed to last a lifetime with good oral hygiene and proper care. This means brushing and flossing regularly, as well as dental check-ups twice a year. However, a dental crown may need to be replaced in 10 to 15 years.

How long does the dental implant process take?

The dental implant process is different for each patient and their unique circumstances. In general, the entire process takes about four to six months including the healing period. It may take longer if you require a supplemental procedure prior to implant placement.

Is dental implant surgery painful?

Our practice offers sedation dentistry options to relieve any pain or discomfort, and help patients feel relaxed during their procedure. Our safe sedation options include minimal oral conscious sedation and nitrous oxide.

I have dentures. Will dental implants still work for me?

If you’ve worn dentures periodically, you may not have sufficient jaw bone density for successful implant placement. During your consultation, our doctors will examine your oral health and determine whether you’re a candidate for dental implants. From there, he’ll decide the best course of action for your individual case.

I have gum disease. Can I still get dental implants?

If you have gum disease, it is possible to get dental implants. Before implant placement, our doctors will have to restore your gum health with periodontal therapy. This may include tissue grafting, non-surgical laser treatment, root planning, and more.

To learn more, give us a call at 402-462-6410 or 402-462-5546 for our Hastings offices, or 402-845-6262 to reach our Doniphan location.

How much do dental implants cost?

The cost of dental implants is different for each patient, depending on the number of implants placed and whether a supplemental procedure is needed. During your initial consultation, we’ll give you a breakdown of your treatment cost after reviewing your oral health and smile goals.

Will my insurance cover dental implants?

Most dental insurance companies will offer partial coverage for dental implants, but some do not. It’s important to discuss your coverage with your insurance provider before your initial consultation. This will help our staff determine a payment and financing plan that’ll work for you
